7. Back in Our Day, Televisions Were Straight Out of the Tree

Once upon a time, someone called a piece of furniture a television after dragging a screen over it. Fortunately, technology has developed since then such that wood and television don't necessarily have to coexist. We most definitely cannot overlook the antenna dilemma since these were unique for the period. Those resembled a poorly executed science experiment. Place it just right, and you might have been able to clearly see your preferred show.
The old televisions we all knew and loved were huge, boxy, and seemed to have been fashioned straight from a wooden tree. Stated otherwise - slabs with displays. These giants were whole pieces of furniture, not only TVs. You planned the whole living area surrounding them, not only set them in a room. And let's discuss relocation of these items; this was an exercise fit for any gym. To move these wooden beasts, two people and much of grunting were usually required. Still, they had some consoling power as well. The way the entire family would gather around the screen like it were some sort of electronic campfire, the pleasing illumination of the screen, the pleasant 'click' of the dial as you changed channels. And who else would overlook the stationary electricity? Touching the screen following a long period of TV on was like doing your own little experiment with lightning. From Saturday morning cartoons to family movie evenings, these TVs were a mainstay of our childhood memories despite their peculiarities and drawbacks.
